The SPD is mainly used for circuit protection of internal interfaces of high speed Ethernet, greatly improving the gigabit Ethernet's ability to withstand overvoltage and lightning impulses. The SPD is characterized by the high transmission rate, fast response speed, low protection level, etc.
Before connecting the SPD into the system, first check the ground resistancer of earth mat which should meet relevant requirements of specifications. There are the IN and OUT markings on the nameplate of SPD, and do not reverse them; Otherwise the SPD will be damaged, and equipment cannot be effectively protected. The earth wire should be as short as possible to be connected with the protective ground strap of the equipment room.
The SPD is connected in the front end of protected equipment in the system. When the transmission lines are struck by lightning, the lightning currents are discharged to the earth through lightning branches, and the lightning overvoltages are clamped within a proper range, thus the security of equipment being ensured.
